Laboratory Objective

The Laboratory of Sociology of Work and Occupations, with particular emphasis on the social, cultural and professional dimensions of new technologies, is a dynamic research and teaching center in the Department of Sociology of the University of the Aegean. Its primary goal is to support and promote academic activities, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, extending its contribution to other Departments of the University.

The Laboratory's main areas of activity include:

  • Specialized Research: Development, documentation and promotion of research in the key areas of the Sociology of Work, Technology and Occupations. Particular emphasis is given to the changes brought about by the digital era in the modern world of work, analyzing their social, cultural and professional dimensions.
  • Production of Scientific Material: Creation and distribution of modern scientific, sociological, cultural and pedagogical material. This includes the preparation of studies, the publication of books and magazines, as well as the development of digital educational content, with the aim of enriching knowledge and supporting teaching.
  • Organization of Scientific Events: Organization of various scientific activities, such as conferences, seminars, symposia, summer and winter international schools and specialized professional training activities. These events aim to disseminate research knowledge, encourage scientific dialogue and bridge the gap between academic research and society.
  • Implementation of Research Programs and Collaborations: Development and implementation of research programs, as well as undertaking educational or research projects. The Laboratory actively collaborates with public and private bodies, contributing to the application of knowledge and addressing contemporary challenges.
  • Promotion of Interdisciplinarity and International Collaborations: Encouraging an interdisciplinary approach to research. Develops collaborations with research centers, laboratories and university institutions both in Greece and abroad, promoting the exchange of ideas and joint research action.
  • Support for Young Researchers: Providing support for postgraduate and doctoral research. The aim is to strengthen new scientific production and cultivate the research skills of young scientists.
  • Strengthening Sociological Research in Greece: Contribution to the strengthening of theoretical and empirical sociological research in Greece. Particular emphasis is given to issues concerning changes in work, professional identity and the broader social impacts of technological development.

Through all of its activities, the Laboratory of Sociology of Work and Occupations aims to be an active factor in the scientific understanding of contemporary social transformations. It seeks to strengthen the fruitful dialogue between the university community and society, promoting knowledge as an essential tool for social and cultural development.
